IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BUTILITY 2.0:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BE SURE TO SPECIFY POSITION OF KEYS WHEN CREATING FILES.
Some BUtility 2.0 users have experienced problems using the File-Create
feature. Be sure to specify the POSITION of your key segment, not the
OFFSET, in the POSITION text box on the key parameter dialog box. If
your key begins with the first character in the data buffer, specify a key
POSITION of 1. BUtility determines which key is the last segment by checking
for POSITION equal to 0. Thus, if you specify POSITION 0 for the first key
segment, BUTILITY will create a file with no keys.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHANGE IN SEARCH AND FIND FEATURES.
Two features of BUtility 2.0 have been improved since the manual was printed.
Search-Find and Search-Change have been given the advantage of being able
to search and replace using Btrieve data types. So, you may press ALT-S, F,
and [ENTER], select a Data Type (Integer, Float, String, etc.), and enter
a value. BUtility will begin searching at the current position in the
current record for the value. You may specify to search only in the current
record by selecting the CURRENT RECORD ONLY check box and you may specify
to search only at the current position within the data buffer by selecting
the CURRENT POSITION ONLY check box. All searching is now case sensitive
to increase the searching performance through the maximum 64K data buffer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE FOR VAP USERS.
If you are using the VAP version of Btrieve, be sure to specify at least
/D:4096 for the data message length when executing BREQUEST. BUtility's
default record length is 4096 and BREQUEST defaults to a data message length
of 2048. Thus BREQUEST with no /D parameter will result with the error
DATA MESSAGE TOO SMALL on any btrieve operation from BUtility. You must also
specify a 'Largest Record Size' of at least 4096 on BSETUP when you configure
BSERVER.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW /N COMMAND LINE SWITCH
If you experience a lockup whenever BUtility makes an error beep, use the
new /N command line switch to specify no sound. Some obscure compatibles
have experienced this problem.
